Qipao wha?

Most people that I know don't know what a qipao is, well that traditional Chinese dress that most people see? YUP, that's it. Made popular back in the 20s now it's become very luxe. Some costing into the thousands and taking up to 3 weeks to make by hand - who knew? I'm so used to the cheap ones in Chinatown for $20. The more you know!

"Tailor-made qipao can cost as much as 2,200 euros and take three weeks to make. The traditional dress was made popular through Shanghai advertisments during the 1920s."

Dior internships that YOU have to PAY for?!

This is straight up bull. I can NOT believe that in order to do free labor (a marketing internship) at Dior one would have to BID on it. The price is currently at $750. Regardless if it goes to a good cause, student should never have to PAY for an internship.

up coming designer pre sales

Chloe:
The sale doesn't officially start until Friday but you can preshop the discounts now. Shoes, clothing and a limited variety of bags will all be discounted 40% off.

Michael Kors:
The prefall collection is already reduced 50% and winter merchandise will be marked down the same amount following Thanksgiving.

Marni:
Presale has not yet started but we hear that the markdown is coming soon. The first discount should be 30% but a 50% price reduction usually comes shortly later.

Norma Kamali:
The Norma Kamali Black Friday sale will begin Wednesday. We hear that there will be seriously good deals. Select merchandise will all be priced $200 and under-- with most in the under $100 range. Sleeping bag coats in pink, cinder and cloud will be $125 to $175 from $650. (Perfect for keeping warm during the parade.) Silk satin gowns that were originally $2700, will be marked down to $200. The promotion takes a break for turkey day but will resume Friday.

YSL:
Presales will begin next week and the discount should be 30% to 40% off, depending on the item. The 57th Street location is plush with merchandise. We also hear that other locations will be transferring their merchandise to NYC too. We have a feeling there will be super discounts come January/Feb.

Saks Presale Begins

Saks Fifth Avenue still seems to be settling their Black Friday shopping incentives. For now, you can shop the eighth floor, designer shoe presale, where the markdown will officially be 30% Friday morning. In the contemporary department, fourth floor, items that are already discounted 40%, will be an additional 50% off until noon Friday. (There's really not a big selection but the markdown is substantial.)

Third floor, designer clothing is still a mystery. We imagine that there will be 30% markdowns on some designers, like Oscar and St. John and maybe Dolce.

GUCCI WATCHES + ARMANI WAREHOUSE SALE!!!! November 2010

So I actually went to the Gucci watch sale. I purchased 2 watches - a woman's gucci twirl and a mens watch. By the time I got there it was ransacked, only 3 tables left. Two with watches and one with some jewelery. The line outside was WRAPPED around the building. From what I could tell, people who was able to get in before did get the pick of the litter and basically bought out everything in bulk. It was suppose to be a two day sale but don't bother, everything seems to have sold out by today. -pictures later-

As for the Armani Sale, I didn't go but did see a LOT of people coming out with bags and it did seem like they have a huge stock of items. Most items were 60% off from what I've heard.

A Good Husband - North American Premiere

AMAZING film by Isao Yukisada based on a play by Mayumi Nakatani. Saw it yesterday at the Big Cinemas Manhattan (Former ImaginAsian). Story was based around this douche-bag husband who had multiple affairs with other women while he was married to his wife of ten years. She catches him in the beginning of the movie and confronts him of the affairs, 10 of which she knows of. She asks for a divorce and the story goes from the there.

and here's the official info provided by www.newyork-tokyo.com/wp/

"INTRODUCTION

A couple has been married for 10 years. The husband is unfaithful but his wife continues to love him. One day, an incident befalls them. The husband tearfully confesses to his wife, “I promise to be a good husband.”

A Good Husband is originally a play by Mayumi Nakatani. Her works are staged internationally.

STORY

Ten years into his marriage, Shunsuke Kitami, who once had a thriving career as a still photographer, now mostly picks fights with his wife, Sakura. Breaking his marriage vow to Sakura to “Have children and always be faithful,” he cheats constantly. Sakura, who is desperate to have a child, finally erupts and right before Christmas, drags her reluctant husband on a vacation to Okinawa.

About one year later, Shunsuke has mysteriously lost his will to work and is living a self-indulgent life off his quickly dwindling savings. Shunsuke shows no interest in the photo assignments his assistant Makoto and Bunta bring to him. Fed up with Shunsuke, Sakura goes on a trip by herself. While she’s gone, Shunsuke invites Ranko, an aspiring actress to his house.

When Sakura comes home two weeks later, an irritated Shunsuke lashes out at her. Sakura responds, “So, you’re ready to live alone?” and disappears upstairs.

Several days later, as Sakura asks Shunsuke for a divorce, she asks her bewildered husband to take a picture of her to “commemorate our divorce.” Reluctantly Shunsuke picks up his camera and starts taking pictures again.

After Sakura leaves him, Shunsuke spends time in his dark room, alone with the last photographs he took of his wife.

One photo after another develops in the darkroom but all they reveal are a blurry background. Sakura is not in any of the images. Finally, an image of Sakura appears in one of the photos. It is an image of Sakura running away, her back facing the camera.

DIRECTOR: Isao Yukisada

Isao Yukisada made his youthful cinematic reputation with GO and Crying Out Love, in the Center of the World. With A Good Husband, he has directed a fantasy for adults.

CAST: Etsushi Toyokawa

Etsushi Toyokawa plays the husband, Shunsuke. After achieved international acclaim in Love Letter and other Shunji Iwai, he has recently performed in Sinking of Japan, Hula Girls, and 20th Century Boys.

CAST: Hiroko Yakushimaru

Hiroko Yakushimaru playes the wife, Sakura. With her riveting debut in Proof of the Wild as a teenager, she has established her as an iconic actress. Best known for her recent performance in Always."

~~SPOILER: So you find out in the end that the couple did in fact go to Okinowa for Christmas. Even there Shunsuke was a jerk and Sakura finally gave in and couldn't take it anymore asking for a divorce. She also requests one last photo of herself which Shun grudgingly agrees too. She notices that she didn't have her ring so she runs back to the hotel to find it. On her way there she got into an accident and dies. In the movie a year has past since her death and who we believe is Sakura is actually the figment of his imagination. He wasn't able to get past her premature death and the guilt of how horribly he treated her but is finally able to move on after addressing the reality that she was gone.

Article on Decoding the Male Brain

Robert sent me this interesting article on the thought processes of male mind. It's pretty interesting, give it a read:

"LB: Sexual activity releases lots of dopamine in the human brain -- and that stimulates bonding and attachment between partners. The male brain has more dopamine than the female brain, and though we don't know all the details of how the male brain functions during sexual activity, we do know this: When a man falls in love with a woman, he actually incorporates her into his sense of self. Everything she likes or wants, he takes those things to heart as if they were his own, and he wants to give her those things. That's how he expresses love -- by providing. For men, the sexual part of that love is intense: With the release of oxytocin after intimacy, the protective mode in the male is greater than it is in the female. So in that sense, men fall harder in love.

Marco Polo Cafe - NYC

Really awesome Asian Italian fusion place I came across by Alphabet City. Food a VERY unique and quite good although a little on the pricier side for Chinese. I got the Moo Goo Gai Panini 8.95, Bison Meatball Hero 8.95, Chicken & Basil Dumplings—6 for 4.95 and 2 Chicken Empanadas for $1 each! They do have a dollar menu but you must buy three, somehow I managaed to get away with just buying two lol. Also they have a lunch special: an order of dumplings (any) and an empanada for $4. Not too shabby =] Just make it before 5PM and grab the deal. The place itself is small but quaint and the owner is super nice and attentive, there is extra seating outside and an ATM if needed. If it gets too crowded then just head to the park right down the block for a nice lunch!

For more info about the place, menu, hours check out the official site!

JUST GOT FINAL FANTASY XIII!!!!

So I just got a new PS3 today and with it came along *drums* FF13. So far the game is kindda on the easy side as for game play. LOTS of save points, not sure what that's about. The story line is okay and the cut scenes are amazing!
